A devastating fire outbreak in Tindongmolgo, a suburb of Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region, has claimed the life of a seven-year-old girl and left 40 residents homeless. The fire, which broke out around 2 p.m. near Adabase Junior High School, completely destroyed an 18-bedroom compound house.
According to the Regional Public Relations Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), Divisional Officer Grade II Nibunu Callistus, firefighters responded swiftly to the distress call and managed to save a few rooms from the flames. However, the cause of the fire is yet to be determined. Some eyewitnesses believe it may have been caused by children attempting to use a gas cylinder to cook.
The landlord, Mr. Nyaaba Akolgo, expressed gratitude to the GNFS, stating that their quick intervention prevented the fire from spreading to neighboring houses.
In the wake of the tragedy, a team led by the Regional GNFS Commander, Assistant Chief Fire Officer Grade II (ACFO II) Richard Sagoe, visited the bereaved family to offer condolences and support.
Authorities continue to investigate the incident and are urging the public to prioritize fire safety to prevent such unfortunate occurrences.
