Award-winning Ghanaian gospel musician Diana Hamilton has urged young people to prioritize education and career development alongside their spiritual lives. While acknowledging the importance of faith, she emphasized the need for a balanced approach that fosters both personal and professional growth.
Speaking on the Talk No Dey Cook Rice Podcast, Diana encouraged the youth to build a strong foundation that enables them to support themselves and others.
“You need to be able to buy your own shoes before thinking of buying a pair for someone else,” she said. “But if you’re always in church and not focusing on your education, not learning how to relate to people or operate in a corporate environment, and not figuring out your life’s direction, you’ll find yourself stuck.”
She warned that without a balanced lifestyle, young people risk becoming overly dependent on others, which could hinder their potential. “Ten years down the line, you’ll still be dependent on others and claiming you want to help the needy — when in fact, you’ve become the needy. You simply cannot give what you do not have,” she added.
Diana also highlighted the importance of balancing spiritual commitments with everyday responsibilities. Using a practical example, she said, “Your mum is in the kitchen, and instead of helping her, you say you have choir rehearsal. That’s not balance. You must learn to live a well-rounded life.”
Her message serves as a wake-up call to young individuals to strive for excellence in all areas of life. Spiritual growth is essential, but so is education, career advancement, and learning practical life skills. Achieving success requires effort and balance, ensuring that one can contribute meaningfully to society while still nurturing their faith.
