A wise man once said, “If you live in the Spirit, you can accomplish more in one hour than you could in a lifetime living naturally.” This simple truth reminds us that there are two ways to live our lives: walking in our own strength or soaring with the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
Pastor S.B. Earnest used to compare this to a bird. Birds can walk, but they are also designed to fly. While walking gets them somewhere, flying allows them to cross mountains, rivers, and obstacles with ease. A Spirit-led life is like a bird flying it enables us to rise above life’s challenges and accomplish much more than we could ever do on our own.
The Long Journey of the Israelites
Did you know that the journey from Egypt to Canaan should have only taken 11 days? Yet, the Israelites wandered in the wilderness for 40 years (Deuteronomy 1:2). Why? It wasn’t because God lacked direction, but because of the state of their hearts.
God wanted to guide them on a direct path, but their disobedience and stubbornness led to a much harder and longer route. Sometimes, our own spiritual journey feels like a desert dry, lonely, and difficult. If our hearts are not aligned with God, He may allow us to go through “desert seasons” to refine us.
The Condition of Our Hearts
God’s guidance in our lives often depends on the state of our hearts. If we are stubborn, rebellious, or clinging to sin, we may find ourselves walking harder, longer paths. Psalm 125:5 says, “Such as turn aside unto their crooked ways, the Lord shall lead them forth with the workers of iniquity.”
But if we surrender our hearts to God and fear Him, He promises to show us the best way forward. Psalm 25:12 assures us, “What man is he that feareth the Lord? Him shall He teach in the way that He shall choose.”
Choose the Spirit-led Life
If you want to live a life of purpose and victory, start by aligning your heart with God. Let go of crooked ways and avoid even the appearance of evil. Seek Him with humility and trust His guidance.
The Spirit-led life is not always easy, but it is powerful. It lifts us above our limitations and leads us to God’s perfect plans. Like a bird that chooses to fly instead of walk, allow the Holy Spirit to carry you to new heights in your walk with God.
Prayer:
Lord, teach me to trust Your guidance. Align my heart with Yours, and help me let go of anything that keeps me from walking in Your ways. Lead me by Your Spirit so I can soar above the challenges of life. Amen.
