In the journey of life, we often encounter obstacles that feel insurmountable—mountains too high to climb, valleys too deep to cross, and storms too fierce to withstand. These moments test not only our strength but also our faith. Yet, it is in these moments that the words of Jesus resound with timeless truth: “Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” (Matthew 17:20).
But what does it mean to have faith that moves mountains? How do we trust God when the challenges ahead seem too great?
1. Understanding Faith
Faith is not just a feeling; it is a decision to believe in God’s power, promises, and presence even when circumstances seem bleak. It is choosing to see with spiritual eyes what may not yet be visible in the physical. Faith acknowledges that God is greater than the mountain before us and trusts that He will provide a way through or over it.
2. Embracing God’s Promises
God’s Word is filled with promises of His faithfulness. He promises to never leave us nor forsake us (Deuteronomy 31:6). He assures us that He has plans to prosper us, not to harm us, to give us hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11). Holding onto these promises gives us the confidence to face our trials knowing that God is in control.
3. Surrendering to God’s Timing
One of the hardest aspects of faith is surrendering our timeline to God’s perfect timing. Often, we want immediate solutions to our problems, but God sees the bigger picture. Trusting God means believing that His timing is perfect, even when the waiting feels unbearable.
4. Walking in Obedience
Faith is not passive; it requires action. Just as Peter stepped out of the boat to walk on water, we too must take steps of obedience, trusting that God will uphold us. Obedience often means following God’s leading even when it doesn’t make sense to us or others.
5. Praying Boldly
Faith that moves mountains is fueled by prayer. Prayer is not just about asking God to change our circumstances but also about aligning our hearts with His will. When we pray boldly, believing in His power and goodness, we unleash the power of heaven in our lives.
6. Finding Strength in Community
Faith flourishes in fellowship. Surrounding ourselves with a community of believers who encourage, support, and pray for us strengthens our trust in God. Together, we remind each other of God’s goodness and spur one another on toward faith and good deeds.
7. Celebrating Small Victories
Faith grows as we remember God’s faithfulness in the small things. Each time God answers a prayer, provides in a time of need, or gives peace in a storm, our trust in Him deepens. Celebrate these moments as reminders that He is able to move mountains.
Faith is not the absence of fear or doubt; it is the courage to trust God despite them. It is a journey of surrendering our control, leaning into God’s promises, and walking in obedience.
Whatever mountain you are facing today, know this: God is greater. His love for you is unfailing, His power is limitless, and His plans for you are good. Trust Him. Believe in Him. And watch as He moves the mountains in your life in ways beyond your imagination.
Your faith, even as small as a mustard seed, can make the impossible possible—because with God, all things are possible.
Be encouraged. Keep trusting. Keep climbing.
