True wisdom comes from God. James 1:5 reassures us: “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not, and it shall be given him.”
King Solomon, the wisest and richest man of his time, highlighted the priceless value of wisdom in Proverbs 16:16: “How much better is it to get wisdom than gold! And to get understanding rather to be chosen than silver.”
The Bible identifies two distinct types of wisdom:
- Earthly Wisdom
- Sensual and devilish. (James 3:13–16)
- Wisdom from Above
- Pure
- Peaceable
- Gentle
- Open to reason
- Full of mercy and good fruits
- Impartial and sincere (James 3:17)
As children of God, we are called to live by His statutes and judgments, for in them lie true wisdom and understanding (Deuteronomy 4:5–6). Walking in obedience to God’s commands allows Him to fill us with His Spirit of wisdom, understanding, and knowledge (Exodus 31:3).
Proverbs 1:1–7 underscores the importance of wisdom, while Proverbs 3:5–7 teaches us how to pursue it:
- Trust in the Lord with all your heart.
- Lean not on your own understanding.
- Acknowledge Him in all your ways, and He will make your paths straight.
May God’s grace inspire us to seek His divine wisdom. As we grow in His wisdom, may we live victorious and fulfilling lives, glorifying His name. Amen.
